As someone who has spent his career helping others prepare for the unexpected, Kyle never imagined he would face it himself.
After getting injured, Kyle needed to rely on our comprehensive benefits to ensure he would have a peaceful road to recovery without having to worry about falling behind at work.
A few days before Thanksgiving in 2023, Kyle was on top of a ladder, blowing leaves from the gutters. The ladder slipped, and he fell 14 feet to the ground. He heard a loud crunch as he landed with his left arm between his house and porch. An emergency room visit confirmed the severity of his injuries: a broken arm, a dislocated shoulder, and torn rotator cuff.
Kyle kept “plucking at the keyboard,” as he calls it, for a few days, determined to keep working. Surgery was recommended, and Kyle knew he needed to press pause. His leader insisted that Kyle take the time he needed to heal. "She made it clear that I wouldn’t have to stress about work. She asked me to focus on healing, which was a blessing to hear.”
Kyle called an HR representative the Monday after the incident who explained every step of the process. She shared that, in addition to the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) policy to take time off, NM would help to bridge the gap in pay lapses before his short-term disability benefits would begin. The representative also outlined how Kyle could close the pay gap entirely with unused Paid Time Off (PTO) to maintain his full take-home pay.

After successful surgery to repair his shoulder, Kyle returned to work in January 2024. He resumed his routine, forever grateful for the care and expertise of NM’s HR team and time-off benefits.
