Job Description
Northwestern Mutual delivers financial security to millions of clients every day. We are looking for an experienced Payments Technology specialist to help us drive the design and implementation of a modern Payments Platform for the company. The Platform will modernize the Money Movement across our technology ecosystem in ways that will transform the client, financial advisor, and client servicing experience!
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Applies Payments Technology industry leading and ground-breaking methodologies in order to analyze and guide the development of the Payments Platform.
- Designs, owns the development and is responsible for the long-term architecture of the Payments Platform Domain.
- Mentors, guides and coaches engineers within division for technical and leadership growth.
- Partners with third-party technology providers and guides the solutions development as needed.
- Owns the long-term architecture roadmap of the Payments Platform and ensures the alignment with the enterprise target state architecture.
- Influences technical, business, and product leadership to achieve efficient desired results.
- Represents Northwestern Mutual's technology organization in community and technology events.
- Acts as a practitioner, mentor, advisor, or influencer based on the need and the situation.
- Cultivates network and talent pipeline by attending and presenting at meetups, conferences, and tech events.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience
- 9-14 years of professional experience required
- 8-10+ years of demonstrated ability leading teams using modern engineering tools, languages, and practices.
- Recognized specialist in Payments Technology with experience in implementing eWallet, online payments, and fraud prevention solutions.
- Experience in integrating with external payments processors, bill pay, and banking-as-a-service providers.
- Retail Investments and/or Insurance experience a plus.
- Full Stack Engineer with well-rounded skills across front end and server-side programming including DevOps automation and AWS Cloud infrastructure.
Preferred list of technology skills:
- Core Programming Skills – Java, React / Redux, NodeJS, JavaScript
- DevOps and Build Automation – GitLab CI / Jenkins, Terraform
- Cloud – AWS (S3, Lambda, RDS, EC2, KMS, IAM)
- PCI DSS, Secure SDLC, TLS and Secrets Management
- Payments Rules Management and Scheduling
- Microservices Architecture, Event Driven Frameworks
- API Management Frameworks
- Real-time processing and batch application patterns
- Containers and Container Management (Kubernetes)
