Job Title: Systems Engineer
Job Description: The Systems Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin will engineer and support database systems including analysis, planning, design, development, implementation, and upgrades. Apply established architectural and engineering best practices to take charge of complex systems to achieve strategic objectives in areas of service management, risk management and feature delivery. Analyze business and functional specifications to deliver high-quality data solutions. Gather requirements from IT partners and customers to develop best automation solutions related to data security. Develop high quality data solution on test driven development and continuous integration practices and establish monitoring and automation processes. Leverage experience with GitLab, Ansible tower, yaml, Flyway/Liquibase, Docker. Execute detailed database design tasks and create and execute associated deliverables. Consult on right-sizing decisions for database solutions. Design DB2 LUW build and configuration patterns for future upgrades. Utilize experience with AWS and other cloud environments and related technologies such as ELK stack, Dynatrace, Database Brothers Inc. (DBI), Amazon Aurora, My SQL, PostgreSQL, RDS, Oracle. Transition database build and configuration work to Service Operation DBA for implementation. Collaborate with other Infrastructure Engineering and Operations database administrators, as well as application developers and data specialists, on database design, configuration, and performance issues. Telecommuting permissible from anywhere in the U.S.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field plus one year of software development experience. One year of experience must include one year of experience with each of the following: (1) DB2 LUW; (2) designing physical models and working with database administration to create and maintain physical databases; (3) Unix shell and Python scripting; (4) GitLab, Ansible tower, yaml, Flyway/Liquibase, and Docker; (5) monitoring databases, solving lock contention, data export, data import, performance tuning, and data bug fixing; (6) database technologies including ELK stack, Dynatrace, Database Brothers Inc. (DBI), Amazon Aurora, My SQL, PostgreSQL, RDS, and Sybase.
