Sr. Product Manager - Design System

What's the role?

As a Senior Digital Product Manager, you'll work with a particular digital product that serves our field offices. You'll demonstrate your expertise for building structure for engineers to easily build digital product, quick prototyping, and understand where adjustments will be made, all within an exciting, Agile environment! If you're someone who enjoys living in digital design, experienced in working on various platforms and focuses on product development lifecycle, you'll thrive in this role! This role will empower every digital experience at Northwestern Mutual and modify and grow the design system based on specific product needs throughout the organization, while ensuring the system remains broad and flexible. You’ll partner with hardworking team of engineers and designers from other product, design and engineering teams to craft the roadmap, define requirements, prioritize work, launch and support features.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Build out the design vision and drive the product vision and appropriate positioning

  • Accountable for development, acceptance and communication of roadmap.

  • Participate in cross functional work to solicit key requirements relative to the accountable product

  • Define the product: Utilizing your sharp eye and experience within digital product and design, you'll be the key structure for engineers and designers to build better improvements and modifications

  • Stakeholdering: Awareness and ability to articulate the product story to a broader audience outside the internal team - additional experience and maturity in the domain

  • Design Partnership: Partner with design to ensure cohesive future state user visions and experiences are aligned with a quarterly vision with an understanding of the total design process.

  • Author User Stories: Translate requirements to technical details to build and validate use cases and user stories around a product and communicate them effectively

  • Data & Customer Research: Advise product decisions with both qualitative and quantitative data on behavior and experimentation

  • Feature Prioritization: Develop and maintain multiple prioritized backlog of user stories for implementation according to business value

  • Facilitate ceremonies: Facilitate the daily Scrums, Sprint Planning Meetings and Sprint Reviews and Retrospectives

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Education- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • 4-5 Years of prior experience with at least 4 working in a Product Management Role, with agile team experience

  • Knowledge Preferred: Experience working on a design system or in similar enterprise level/platform team. Certification or experience with Product Owner or Scrum Master role.

  • Proven cross-functional work in previous experience along with strong communication skills, time management, project management skills, intuition for business and high self-awareness/EQ. Previous research experience, influence skills, initial leadership exposure, ability to translate product requirements into technical requirements, and work in ambiguity.

  • Solves sophisticated problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions; exercises judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information.

  • Familiarity with React and web components is a plus
