Sr. Director Performance and Strategic Integration

Summary:

Northwestern Mutual's Organizational Excellence team is adding a Senior Director Performance and Integration.  The team drives enterprise productivity and efficiency improvements through developing and executing on enterprise strategic programs and helping deliver capabilities that drive structural and sustainable changes. 

This role is responsible for strategic and business transformation workstreams answering business unit and enterprise level questions that have a significant impact on the near- or long-term performance improvement of the company.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Expert generalist to support the VP Organizational Excellence and Chief Operating Officer on multi-year enterprise productivity improvement efforts

  • Establish and deliver key strategic outputs

  • Work with department business leaders to translate strategic goals into annual priorities and operating plan goals

  • Collaborate with other senior leaders to build out the productivity and efficiency roadmap & success metrics

  • Be a thought leader within the business unit and points of business unit integration with the enterprise; thought leadership includes articulating unnoticed points of strategic misalignment & re-examining previous assumptions about program strategy to drive productivity improvements

  • Present research / insight findings and recommendations to senior leadership with focus on translating insights into action

  • Lead cross functional teams in building empirical fact-base baseline and business case development and roadmap

  • Frame ambiguous problems and creatively use hypothesis driven approach to answer difficult questions and set priorities that drive greater experience and enterprise productivity

  • Continuously keep a pulse on department progress through recurring and ad-hoc tracking (via quantitative analysis and benefits tracking)

  • Lead stakeholder insight-generation with research, baseline metrics, and analysis that enable the company to drive performance improvement

  • Oversee various data analytics efforts pertaining to the department's business.

  • Enable an understanding of department economics as well as provide an economic perspective on strategic questions facing the department's business.

  • This is an independent contributor position but may lead blended project teams to delivery on 3 to 6 month initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Economics, or similar

  • Minimum of eight years of progressively responsible work experience including project management, facilitating cross-functional teams, and/or leading strategic business consulting.

  • 3-5 years of management consulting experience for leading company

  • Ability to provide cross functional consultation based on corporate vision and strategy

  • Strong analytical skills and excel modeling ability

  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels, particularly with senior management

  • Ability to engage diverse audiences and influence strategic alignment

  • Leadership and decision-making skills

  • Advanced degree or certification (e.g., MBA) strongly preferred
