What’s the role?
We are seeking a Senior Director Impact Investment Strategy who will drive the Company’s impact investing strategies in support of its Sustained Action for Racial Equity (SARE) strategy in Milwaukee and Southeast Wisconsin. Additionally, this leader will help coordinate and support the company’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG)-related activities. This is a newly created role, reporting directly to our Executive Vice President - Chief Legal Officer, Chief Compliance Officer & Secretary, so you can expect regular executive exposure and to make an impact both locally and across the enterprise. Primarily, you will focus your efforts on these areas of responsibility:
Impact investments: You have the opportunity to build out and refine Northwestern Mutual's local impact investment strategy, including creation and measurement of impact metrics. You can expect to perform reporting on the performance of the impact investment fund, specifically including impact results in desired focus areas. You will develop and maintain an understanding of impact investment trends and track industry initiatives related to impact and sustainability topics. As an active representative of Northwestern Mutual in the community, you will source and plan impact investment projects and understand local and national opportunities. Internal and external partnerships are key. This person will partner with our investment teams and third-party specialists to coordinate and execute the Company’s approach to impact investing.
Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy: You will support the build of the Company’s ESG strategy, policies, and reporting metrics. This requires continued awareness of socially responsible and ESG reporting standards, dissemination of knowledge on these topics within the company, and ensuring compliance regarding any changes in regulations. The results of your efforts will create a holistic and structured way to implement ESG-related capabilities and ongoing measurement.
Impact Investing Committee: You will support the Impact Investing Committee of the Company, by setting the agenda, preparing all relevant materials, facilitating presentations, and driving meaningful discussions.

Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, or sustainability related field
Minimum of 3 years relevant work experience driving SRI, ESG or Impact Investment initiatives
Experience in designing and managing strategy and measurement frameworks for impact-driven projects or organizations
Good understanding of sustainable finance and capital markets
Strong understanding of finance, business acumen and risk measurement to assess potential investments, operations, and conflicts of interest
Prior experience with and strong commitment to diversity and inclusion
Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate the strategic relevance and provide technical guidance on impact management
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, ability to deal with ambiguity
Intellectual curiosity, innovative mindset and creative problem-solving
This job is not covered by the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement.
