What is the role?

As the leader of data architecture team, you will be responsible for defining the Northwestern Mutual’s data architecture target state. You will lead a team of enterprise data architects and will collaborate with the Chief Data Officer’s architecture team and the rest of the enterprise to identify our strategic architecture direction and chart of path to execute on this vision.

What you’ll do:

Lead a team of enterprise data architects and work effectively across organizational boundaries.

Work closely with the data organization to define our target data architecture and strategy to support our business goals.

Help drive the systematic advancement of our current state data architecture towards the target state architecture through the definition of standards and transitional architectures.

Participate in the rationalization of data-related technologies across the enterprise.

Provide a low-friction path for the productization of AI/ML data science projects.

Support the advancement of best practices and core principles around data governance to enable alignment with long term objectives

Build strong working relationships with architects and delivery leaders.

Work closely with the application architecture team to ensure a cohesive target state.

Ensure close alignment between our data technology strategy and our enterprise technology strategy.

Advocate for adoption of modern data-centric technologies & techniques with teams across NM to improve access and quality of data.

What we’re looking for:

  • 10+ years of experience architecting, designing and developing large-scale data solutions leveraging relational and non-relational technologies for both operational and analytical purposes.

  • Deep expertise in modern data and cloud technology required.

  • Experience driving technology modernization from on-prem to cloud strongly preferred.

  • Extensive data modeling experience with operational and analytical data stores.

  • Understanding of data governance principles and best practices, ability to apply a practical approach to driving data governance maturity.

  • Experience leveraging AI/ML models to drive recommendation engines or other data products.

  • Proven ability to drive broad enterprise alignment and the successful implementation of impactful technology solutions.

  • Passionate advocate for leveraging data solutions and practices to unlock business value.

  • Effective communicator with both technical and non-technical partners.

  • Skilled at influencing and working across organizational boundaries.

  • Experienced leader and mentor to engineers and architects.

  • Past expertise & experience in modernizing legacy data systems.

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$143,360.00

Pay Range - End:

$266,240.00

N ort hwester n Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Please note that the salary range listed in the posting is the standard pay structure. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
