Sr Digital Product Business Analyst - Field Rewards

Do you love solving complex business problems with digital/technical solutions? Northwestern Mutual is seeking a hardworking and experienced Business Analyst to support a compensation tool associated with the sales of our Long-Term Care product. As a Senior Business Analyst, you will dive deep and define business requirements and technical features for strategic, transformational efforts. You will work on a cross-functional team of product managers, engineers and domain experts in an agile methodology to deliver on our outcomes.

A foundation of business and technical fundamentals should be complemented by soft-skills in building relationships, effectively eliciting and documenting requirements, critical problem-solving skills, and working toward shared goals.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Business Expertise : Deep expertise in at least one business area or domain. Ability to articulate this knowledge as an expert at the department level and may be called on to provide insight at the enterprise level to provide detailed analysis.

  • Current State, Future State and Gap Analysis: Independently assess and document current state across multiple processes, business areas and domains while consulting and mentoring other Business Analysts. Ability to think strategically in understanding business drivers to define "target state" solutions.

  • Gather Requirements: Responsible for leading requirement gathering for larger efforts and across multiple business domains or from other business analysts

  • Test Plan Reviews: Support solution delivery by coordinating and facilitating the business test planning and test execution by authoring, participating in, and ensuring business sign-off of testing processes for medium and large efforts.

  • Leadership: Works independently and may coordinate work for others and/or provide mentorship. May provide business direction, guidance, and decisions to development and delivery teams.

  • Project Management: Proven success and ability to use advanced project management skills to lead, complete and advance work.

  • 4-5 years of prior experience demonstrating business analysis

  • Ability to work as a part of a team and build collaborative relationships. Basic ability to pull a mix of people and skill-sets together for a common purpose and goal. Self-directed and detail-oriented.

  • Embrace and deal with ambiguity with strong analytical and communication skills. Know how to use data to make good decisions when confronted by ambiguity. Ability to track down answers when they are not known upfront.

  • Deep understanding of the business area you support. Field compensation and production credit knowledge is a plus.

  • Accountability for high quality, value-driven work; place the user in the center of decision making, embrace continuous learning, curious and voice opinions, and take personal accountability.

  • Deep familiarity of agile & scrum development environments

  • Solves complex problems; takes a new perspective on existing solutions; exercises judgment based on the analysis of multiple sources of information

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

  • Certifications demonstrating mastery of role specific proficiencies


This job is not covered by the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement.
