The Field Learning Software Engineering team at Northwestern Mutual is responsible for creating and improving systems that ensure the company's field representatives are trained and prepared to meet the evolving needs of existing customers and potential customers. These systems provide the learning ecosystem to engage our financial representatives with best practices, product rollouts, and practice opportunities. The applications are varied and involve working in close partnerships with technical peers and business partners. You’ll be part of a team that plays a crucial role in ensuring this great company continues to do great things for its customers.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Applies engineering best practices in order to analyze and develop software solutions.

  • Develops software using established development and continuous integration practices.

  • Utilizes established monitoring and automation processes.

  • Conducts code evaluations.

  • Participates in setting team standards and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

  • 3-5 years professional experience required

  • Familiarity using continuous integration and deployment concepts

  • At least 3+ years professional experience with NodeJS

  • At least 1+ year professional experience with ReactJS, HTML5, CSS

  • Familiarity with public cloud and associated technologies (AWS, Azure, Containerization)

  • Strong technical skills

  • Understanding of your business domain

  • Able to mentor new team members

  • Can communicate clearly to the business

Nice to Have:

  • Full-stack developer experience.

  • Cloud (AWS) development experience

  • Containerized development experience (Docker/Kubernetes)

  • Experience designing microservices

  • MySQL or another relational database experience

  • NoSQL or another non-relational database experience

  • Experience working on a Scrum/Agile team

  • Experience with DevOps processes and tools to build and deploy application

  • Familiarity with SCM tools (GitLab)

  • CI-CD tools (GitLab CI)

  • Experience with TDD practices and browser test automation
