Job Title: Software Engineer

Job Description: The Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee, WI will collect requirements from internal business partners, develop and enhance applications to enable increased and improved business functionality, and test applications to ensure the quality and functionality of code and deploy applications through the secure continuous integration/continuous delivery/deployment pipeline. Create new and secure data integrations to enable mobility and real-time access to data by business. Migrate existing applications from legacy infrastructure and coding languages to modern, full-stack solutions on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud. Develop design patterns to optimize cloud consumption. Develop applications using Agile development practices. Work with Enterprise Compliance Department business partners to address concerns, provide support for application issues, and develop and deploy updates to business systems. Collaborate with software architects to modernize the application portfolio, reduce technical debt, and ensure applications perform at peak efficiency. Monitor application development progress to ensure service level agreements are met. Monitor and resolve vulnerabilities in our application portfolio. Ensure that applications comply with regulatory requirements for security, such as multi-factor authentication and single sign-on protocols. Apply upgrades and technology mandates to keep platforms current and secure; document activities to facilitate future application development and upgrades. May work from home up to 2 days per week. 

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field plus three years of professional software engineering experience. Three years of experience must include one year of experience with each of the following: (1) gathering business requirements and translating them into technical specifications that leverage programming languages including Java, NodeJS, JavaScript, .NET, and Python; (2) analyzing and developing software solutions; (3) developing software using established development and continuous integration practices; and (4) utilizing and enhancing established monitoring and automation processes.
