The Actuarial Software Engineering team at Northwestern Mutual is crafting and improving systems that ensure the company can meet its financial obligations to its customers, employees, and field representatives. These systems are financial in nature, centered on risk products and benefit plans, and based on the professional knowledge of the actuary. The applications are multifaceted, generally are mathematical in nature, and involve working in close partnerships with technical peers and actuarial business experts. This assignment will be on our team developing software's that provide key product information to the actuarial business experts and other enterprise Engineering teams. You’ll be part of a team that plays a meaningful role in ensuring this great company continues to do phenomenal things for its customers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • On our team you will participate creating and influencing team standards

  • Applies engineering standard methodologies in order to analyze and develop software solutions.

  • Develops software using established development and continuous integration practices.

  • Accountable for unit testing and maintenance of applications/systems

  • Applies established monitoring and automation processes.

  • Conducts code evaluations.

  • Participates in setting team standards and standard methodologies.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience required

  • Mainframe and distributed development experience or an ability to quickly contribute in these environments

  • Strong desire to develop an understanding of the business domain

  • Strong technical capability and ability to logically analyze and creatively tackle issues independently

  • Able to work with limited mentorship and direction

  • Familiarity using continuous integration and deployment concepts

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with immediate team members, other Tech areas, and clients in other departments
