The Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Franklin, Wisconsin will analyze insurance domain application requirements and provide development solutions. Develop and test for insurance application requirements. Release checkout and verification for newly deployed code in insurance application. Conduct code review and sign off for work done from offshore team. Provide production support for insurance domain applications. Dig deep into technology and collaborate with product, engineers, and designers in order to enhance and modernize top tier technical applications which include software to support loan, surrender, withdrawal and reinstatement processing on Life and Disability Insurance Products. Apply understanding of software life cycle and design patterns to understand the technical features being built. Participate in weekly refinement meetings. Utilize development skills including mainframe technologies including PLI, COBOL, JCL, CICS, Webservices, MQ series, java script, and NodeJS. Practice Agile methodologies to implement technical application requirements. Apply advanced knowledge of Software Engineering and Design principles. Actively participate in team code reviews and functional demonstrations. Collaborate in fixing bugs, writing new features, maintaining documentation, participating in planning sessions and mentoring junior engineers. Collaborate in a deeply cross functional manner with engineers and business to brainstorm requirements for features and solution through difficult defects. Explain technical solutions to both technical and non-technical teams and apply experience architecting the design solutions. Analyze technical solutions and provide estimates for feature implementation. Mentor and provide guidance to people within the team and external to the team. Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week. Salary $108,326 - $150,280 per year.
Minimum Requirements: Master's degree in Applied Computer Science or related field plus 2 years (or a Bachelor's degree plus 5 years) of software development and testing experience. 2 years of experience must include 2 years of experience with each of the following: (1) COBOL; (2) PL/1; (3) Job control language; (4) DB2; (5) IMS; (6) IDMS; (7) Sybase; (8) .NET; (9) Java; (10) MQ service; and (11) JIRA.
