Job Title: Software Engineer

Job Description: The Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Franklin, Wisconsin will define and develop solutions with in-depth analysis, constructive thinking, and data to measure progress as well as adjust approach based on insights gathered. Support infrastructure needed by application development to maintain company's legacy systems. Gather business requirements and translate them into functional and technical requirements. Develop programs to meet business requirements and move them to various environments for successful installs. Develop new application platforms or modify existing applications to fix issues, upgrade interfaces and improve performance as per the requirements and testing using PL/1, SAS, Rest API services, VSAM, CICS, C++, VB.Net, Java, Gitlab, Jira, JCL and FTP the files/reports. Support design and testing of software in all program phases, from initial design through coding, testing and integration. Perform impact analysis, preparation of code specs, code walkthrough with team, implementation checkouts and post implementation validations. Develop Informatica components including Mapplets, Mappings and Workflows that perform Extraction, Transformation and Load of source data using various power center transformations. Partner with other teams and vendors, working on different technologies including GitLab, Informatica, UNIX and other technologies and coordinate with Operations team for successful deploys. Create and modify UNIX scripts to schedule Autosys jobs that flow through different business product lines to create reports/files. Prepare detailed documentation of system knowledge analysis, implementation/contingency plans for deploys, test closure reports and solution approaches. Prepare production jobs and run sheets to execute a successful test cleanup process in production. Support and monitor batch job schedules for any error events and resolve them. Handle Production support by fixing jobs, implementing new ideas which help in process improvements and modernization.

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field plus three years of system-wide architectural experience. Three years of experience must include one year of experience with each of the following: (1) utilizing mainframe engineering tools and languages including TSO, PL1, SAS, JCL, CICS, VSAM, Rexx and IBM Debug; (2) developing solutions using agile methods; (3) Front End, Back End, Informatica, UNIX, Cloud, VB.NET, Java, REST, Python; (4) performing peer reviews on code and design; (5) continuous integration and deployment concepts; (6) making changes to technical applications in the financial services industry; and (7) working with vendors to transfer files and make changes to Group Administration applications.
