As a part of CD, Shared Business Services (SBS) is is a strategic partner that seeks to extend sales force capabilities, grow capacity, and enable change. SBS uses a customized business model of partnership, consultation, alignment, and design/build to drive development of services and concepts, often for for high visibility strategic initiatives.

Reporting to the Senior Director Business Services Owner, the Service Development Lead will be accountable for defining the why, when, and what of multiple services at various stages of their life cycle, leading cross-functional teams to define, deliver, and improve the service offerings. The Service Development Lead will also set strategy, build service roadmaps, and define features for services. This role is key, providing deep expertise needed to lead and make strategic SBS service product decisions using analysis of market and competitive conditions, business capabilities, demand forecasting, and economic analyses (feasibility, viability, desirability, resource-ability). SBS is a fast paced, agile, rapidly evolving environment. The role spans many activities from strategic to tactical and provides important cross-functional leadership most notably between business partner, development, marketing, and support teams.

  • Bachelor's degree and ten or more years of experience solving large-scale problems in business operations, complex processes, sales/distribution organizations, new products or other related industry.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to adjust to changing business needs by effectively managing and prioritizing large or complex concurrent assignments.
  • Ability to rise above outmoded practices and solve problems in newer, better ways in a team environment
  • Proven ability to identify and cultivate relationships with key stakeholders and influence without authority across all levels in the organization.
  • Ability to think analytically, creatively and at deep levels of abstraction.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including facilitation, documentation, and presentations.
  • Knowledgeable in current policies, practices, and ability to anticipate future trends affecting the business unit from people, process, and technology perspectives.
  • Knowledge of Continuous Learning Improvement or Lean Concepts and tools preferred
  • Knowledge of Northwestern Mutual's financial planning process, products or field operations preferred
