Job Title: Senior Software Engineer

Job Description: The Senior Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin will work in an ETL/relational database platform and deliver data solutions in new cloud-based technologies.  Work on next generation of investment data product/initiatives, deliver new product features, optimize our data solution and help build team's new technology stack. Responsible for designing and coding complex software products and services. Identify problems, understand and evaluate alternatives, and apply alternatives to deliver development and product solutions. Contribute to technology and product roadmaps, and then design, code and develop solutions to realize deliverables. Ensure alignment proactively and escalate work not aligned with strategy. Contribute to full stack of development including designs and products.  Produce quality code, releases, and fixes. Contribute to standards for quality. Convert business requirement algorithms to work products. Participate in peer reviews. Build medium to complex platforms and products. Build resilient products and features which are easily maintainable. Optimize application development and product quality. Solve problems and relate solutions to others. Communicate to leadership and development staff. Participate in peer reviews and QA on code and design. Understand development budgets and resources, compliance, security, and risk. Telecommuting permissible from anywhere in the U.S. 

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering Management or related field plus 5 years of software engineering experience. 5 years of experience must include 5 years of experience with each of the following: (1) data systems architecture; (2) designing data engineering solutions; (3) batch and near real-time data integration; (4) coding using Informatica; (5) relational databases including DB2; (6) writing and reviewing SQL statements and performance tuning; (7) Unix Scripting; (8) enterprise architecture patterns and establishing new patterns to meet business needs. Must also have one year of experience using Python, Spark, and Cloud technologies.
