Job Title: Senior Software Engineer

Job Description: The Senior Software Engineer in the cloud, web UI development team within the Risk Servicing function at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Franklin, Wisconsin will understand the project requirements (both functional and non-functional) and assimilate existing documentation and inputs from Business Analysts/SMEs and seeking clarifications, to participate in the Development and Testing phases of the project. Analyze, design, implement and refactor enhancements to Risk Service Platforms to support new functional, auditing and regulatory requirements and operational maintainability. Design and refine requirements, develop and support existing data pipelines and services/APIs for insurance administration applications. Create specifications and unit test plans for software by studying functional and non-functional requirements and the application architecture document. Develop software and create user documentation for above applications using their knowledge of relevant technology, business requirements and understanding of the application. Develop and implement monitoring solutions for Log Analytics and Application Performance Management respectively. Use Agile methodologies in a Dev Ops environment, leading and participating in sprint ceremonies like daily standup, demo, planning and retro.  Design, architect and implement Continuous Integration and Deployment strategies for our applications using CICD tools like GitLab CI, Nexus and Urban Code Pure. Perform testing including Functional, Integration, and System, as well as identifying and resolving defects to ensure accurate program operation. Implement practices as required per the current NM enterprise change management processes. Lead production deployments, planning and execution. Work on `Go Live` activities as per the Implementation plan and manage any issues related to functionalities, user interface, performance, etc. that may arise.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or a related field plus five years of software development experience.   The five years of experience must include five years of experience with each of the following: (1) working with source code control and engineering automation tools including GitLab, CICD and Pipelines; (2) working with Sybase, My SQL, MS SQL and DB2; (3) experience with the following software development languages and frameworks: Java, JavaScript, React, Redux, SCSS, XHTML, and jQuery; (4) working with on-shore and off-shore contract engineering teams; (5) supporting monitoring solutions leveraging ELK Stack and Dynatrace; and (6) working with a US, regulated insurance or financial services company.   Must also have three years of experience with each of the following: developing and deploying microservices in AWS environment using Kubernetes containers; and developing solutions using both agile and waterfall methodologies.
