Senior Research & Portfolio Analyst - Subadvised Funds

The Senior Research & Portfolio Analyst – Subadvised funds is responsible all aspects of subadvisor research, selection, monitoring, reporting, and ongoing management decisions within Northwestern Mutual Wealth Management’s subadvised funds. Research responsibilities will include identifying subadvisors to fulfill specific investment mandates within the funds. Determining optimal weights of subadvisors. Monitoring those subadvisors to ensure adherence to the mandate. Reporting to the fund Board and other parties on subadvisor performance, as well as on overall fund performance.

Additional responsibilities:

  • Assist in crafting marketing and informative content for advisors and clients related to the funds
  • Present to internal teams and financial advisors on how subadvisors were selected and how funds are encouraged to perform
  • Manage relationships with outside managers to include on-site visits and regular updates
  • Maintain a list of potential subadvisors and strategies to use within the fund
  • Creating reports for approved managers and ensuring appropriate due diligence is performed following NMWMC’s investment process

Bring your best! What the role needs:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business, finance, economics or related equivalent combination of work experience.
  • 8 years plus meaningful work experience in the investment industry to include experience performing investment research and/or evaluating investments or investment products as part of a portfolio.
  • Background in selection and oversight of investment advisors in 40 Act structure
  • Broad knowledge of markets, investments, economics, accounting, and financial tools, such as Bloomberg, FactSet, Morningstar Direct, Excel, etc.
  • Strong working knowledge of current trends within the investment industry.
  • The ability to communicate optimally at all levels of the organization, as well as with financial advisors. This includes writing reports, memos, communications, as well as giving presentations to audiences of varying sizes.
  • CFA and/or MBA strongly preferred.



This job is not covered by the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement.
