What's the role?

A Sr. Product Designer takes a comprehensive view of product balancing desirability, usability, viability, and feasibility all with a constant focus on how our customers, our partners, and the business all gain value through this complete 360-degree view of the product & service experience.

We are leading a major digital transformation, and our Product Designers can expect to play a critical part in driving our organization’s total success by applying researched-derived insights through applied critical & creative process, and detailed & principled design.

What you'll be doing:

  • Thinking through sophisticated features and flows, balancing user needs and business needs, and making the complex feel simple.

  • Working under the mentorship of a lead product designer, while still having ownership over your work.

  • Following an iterative design process to wireframe, prototype, and validate design ideas.

  • Understanding established design patterns and knowing when to follow them and when to break them.

  • Understanding how to leverage qualitative and quantitative research insights to inform design decisions, and how craft an MVP with a longer-term vision in mind.

  • Establishing a systematic interaction design language across systems and platforms and will help define and drive the future of Northwestern Mutual product experience.

  • Collaborating with the native mobile design system team to build scalable components

  • Providing mentorship and coaching to less experienced designers and non-designers on the team

  • Collaborating with partner-stakeholders (product manager, developers, other designers), leading design's focus n both design quality and the people whom we serve.

What the role needs:

  • The ability to work onsite at least 3 days/week in our Milwaukee, WI campus or 2 days/week in our NYC campus.

  • Native mobile design experience required.

  • A self-starter who is user-focused, detailed, and solutions-oriented.

  • Ability to craft your work at every stage of the way (low, mid and high fidelity).

  • Earned understanding of Agile and how to balance speed and quality

  • Knowledge of the fundamentals of user-centered design, visual design, brand development, and how products are put together.

  • An extreme passion for understanding the user, and a strong communicator of the user's perspective throughout the design process.

  • An understanding that UX is more than just UI but includes all user-centered design activities from research, concepting, flows, sitemaps wireframes, prototypes, annotations, and more.

  • Working knowledge of design and prototyping tools to demonstrate how a particular flow or interaction will work.

  • A strong online portfolio available for viewing showing at least 3 examples of your process (low, mid, high fidelity) from start to finish.

$112,560.00

$209,040.00

N ort hwester n Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
