Northwestern Mutual is looking for a strong candidate to bring their network and data center experience to a hardworking team that’s revolutionizing our infrastructure with next-gen, software-defined technologies.

We’re looking for an upbeat, customer focused, results oriented Senior Network Engineer to join our team. You will demonstrate proven skills and experience to drive our architectural roadmaps, planning, implementation, support, and monitoring of NM’s corporate network by developing patterns to resolve problems, ensure security alignment, and recommend improvements. The ideal candidate will have the aptitude, resourcefulness, and passion to learn and stretch into new technology platforms while demonstrating network expertise to deliver on company strategy and optimize investments.

  • Apply engineering best practices to analyze, design, develop, deploy and support network infrastructure in an enterprise environment.

  • Support network connectivity and internal infrastructure for our locations across the US.

  • In a DevOps environment, you move between diverse tasks with partnership and persistence, helping to bring out the best in those around you.

  • Provide domain expertise in one or more areas of network technology, including SDN, Spine Leaf Architecture, Routing/Switching, MPLS, BGP, and Data Center architecture.

  • Lead projects to define and implement network infrastructure in support of business needs.

Bring Your Best! What this role needs:

  • Experience with network engineering best practices to include analyzing, designing, developing, deploying, and supporting network solutions, and/or infrastructure implementation/upgrades.

  • Expertise in one or more of the following technologies and/or platforms: Arista, Juniper, Aruba, Cisco, Palo Alto, Spine / Leaf designs, BGP/OSPF/EIGRP routing protocols, routing/switching, Software Defined Networks, LAN / WAN configurations, Application Delivery controllers, Data center switching and converged networks, MPLS/ VPLS, VXLAN, MLAG, HA and resiliency architectures.

  • Strong sense of ownership and the ability to work with a limited set of requirements.

  • Strong customer support skills working with varying degrees of technical aptitude.

  • Ability to explain technical solutions to technical teams and non-technical teams.

Additional Network Specific Items:

  • 5+ years experience as a Senior or Lead Network Engineer, designing and managing highly available network infrastructure.

  • Knowledge in layer two and layer three routing and switching

  • Knowledge/understanding of configuring and deploying network switches and routers including adding VLANs and routing protocols (including TCP/IP, BGP, and Multicast)

  • Experience with design, provisioning, and troubleshooting of WAN and LAN connectivity technologies (i.e. MPLS, LACP)

  • Knowledge/familiarity in creating ACLs, TCP/IP sub-netting, and VLAN trunking

  • Knowledge/familiarity of Priority Queuing, Class of Service (CoS), and Quality of Service (QoS)

  • Knowledge/familiarity with network monitoring solutions

  • Knowledge/familiarity with WAN/Optical technologies a plus

  • Knowledge/familiarity with managing DNS/DHCP/IPAM a plus

  • Knowledge/familiarity with SDN/Network automation preferred

  • Basic knowledge/familiarity with coding/scripting/automation (Python, Ansible) preferred

  • CCNP / CCIE / JNCIE Certification Preferre
