Senior Java Engineer

This role will support our growing team. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer.

We need someone that loves to solve problems. We are seeking a developer who is eager to grow but can also keep the big picture in mind. We are seeking a developer that always codes with performance, scalability, and supportability in mind. We would love if you were someone who can debug another’s code as easily as you can debug your own.

You will be working on the systems that provide the future visions of the client experiences for Northwestern Mutual. Our team provides the core client data for the enterprise and is experiencing growth and focus around maturing our core data platforms. We need engineers who can help us mature our space and take our APIs and services to the next level!

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates technical leadership to team by applying engineering standard methodologies to build and support backend software solutions.

  • Establishes, aggregates, and shares team standards and best practices within department.

  • Utilizes working relationships across teams within their division.

  • Assesses and provides solutions to system-wide architectural problems.

  • Continuous improvement mindset that works to identify and automate repeated tasks.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

  • 4-5 years professional experience required

  • 3-5+ years of experience working with Java and/or APIs

  • Demonstrated critical thinking, ownership mindset and continuous learning

  • Experience developing solutions using agile methods

  • Mentor for the team and department

  • Advanced skillset in one or more technical platforms

  • Capable of communicating between product, engineering, and the business

  • Manages own time to meet objectives

  • Ability to perform peer reviews on code and design

  • Solid understanding of design patterns and architecture

This job is not covered by the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement.
