Senior Director Technology Strategy & Enterprise Architecture Governance

Northwestern Mutual is looking for a Senior Director of Technology Strategy and Enterprise Architecture Governance who will play a pivotal role in defining and executing technology capabilities that drive digital transformation and achieve our overall company objectives.

Your Impact:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in the area of enterprise architecture and governance.

  • Advise IT teams on technology standards, methodologies, and processes.

  • Drive the short and long-term IT project portfolio strategy for key business segments.

  • Participate in proof of concepts to define technology direction and enable business strategy.

  • Assess the effectiveness, efficiency, and soundness of technology solutions, promoting consistency across division technology solutions.

  • Partner with Technology Leads to drive technology transformation efforts.

  • Apply best practices, stay updated on emerging technologies, and implement innovations to deliver value.

  • Provide periodic updates to Senior Management on technology strategy matters.

  • Build and maintain relationships with technology and business stakeholders.

  • Attract, develop, and retain staff.

Qualifications:

  • Functional understanding of tech architecture and enterprise governance. 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 10 years of business leadership experience.

  • Proven leadership experience with diverse technical and non-technical teams.

  • Superior interpersonal skills to lead groups of people.

  • Experience in portfolio/project management, strategic and operational planning, and leading multiple sophisticated projects with organization-wide impact.

  • Demonstrated organizational agility to work across boundaries, influence, and collaborate with all levels on solutions that benefit the organization.

  • Ability to work horizontally with shared priorities, elevating functional priorities over departmental objectives.

  • Proven skills in dealing with ambiguity and paradox, and leading change.

  • Exceptional discernment and focus on achieving business impact through progressive practices and sound business judgment.

  • Ability to translate goals and strategies into executable business plans.

  • High level of integrity and ability to treat confidential information confidentially.

  • Demonstrated learning agility and outside-in perspective to identify future trends and practices.

  • Strong organizational skills; able to handle competing demands and work within short time frames.

  • Ensure the Technology strategy supports business strategies and visions.

  • Effectively communicate the Technology strategy to Tech/CXD teams.

  • Possess foundational technical understanding to integrate business strategy and initiatives with horizontal technology strategies.

  • Establish close partnerships with Enterprise Architecture, Technology, Digital Product, and Engineering leaders, proactively addressing misaligned strategies.

  • Form frameworks that bring clarity, precision, and alignment in ambiguous and complex scenarios, leading to actionable outcomes.

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$146,440.00

Pay Range - End:

$271,960.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Please note that the salary range listed in the posting is the standard pay structure. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
