An essential ingredient to our sustained success will be Northwestern Mutual’s Senior Director – Strategic Communications (Strategy & Investments). Located in Milwaukee, WI, New York City, or remote and reporting to the Vice President, Strategic Communications, the Senior Director – Strategic Communications will own the development and direction of communication strategies helping to advance the company’s growing and successful wealth and investment management business. This key leader role will support the C-Suite leadership accountable for corporate strategy and the company retail and institutional investment business, which collectively handles $500B in assets. This communication leader and their team will partner with marketing and the company’s wealth and investment management business to drive communication messaging and activities across employee, field and external audiences, that is aligned to the company strategy/company narrative.
How you will do it:
Develop thought leadership opportunities to elevate the presence and value proposition of the company’s investment business to all audiences.
Create well-rounded messaging and associated content for internal and external audiences, including the Board of Trustees, Employees, Financial Advisors, as well as presentations at field meetings, field office visits and internal thought leadership events.
Lead a team of hard-working professionals (5+) to achieve the strategic outcomes for communications and the business.
Champion a collaborative network with other strategic communicators to ensure alignment and integration to strengthen and reinforce the company narrative across audiences.
Counsel senior executives and teams to inform strategy, decisions, and best position them to articulate a compelling company narrative.
Actively partner cross-functionally for message and priority alignment at various levels with home office, field, and client audiences.
Collaborate within the function and cross-functionally to align communication strategy with organizational change occurring within the business.
Identify communication opportunities and solutions and define and implement appropriate strategies to support them while also measuring and improving communication effectiveness.

Deep strategic consulting and communications ability, with demonstrated expertise in supporting and enabling C-suite leaders in internal and external communications.
Beyond 10 years of experience in leading teams to drive integrated communications, marketing, program development, or strategic planning.
Proven leadership skills including organizational and strategic agility, enterprise and integrative thinking, business acumen, influence, and leading with vision and purpose.
Team leader who motivates and sets clear objectives and critical metrics to achieve set goals.
Validated ability to develop and deliver effective critical communication programs and executive communication including excellent writing skills.
Ability to make decisions in a changing environment and anticipate future needs.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively across organizational areas in a matrix environment.
Financial services and/or wealth management industry experience preferred and highly desirable.
