Senior Director Product Management - Planning Experience

What's the role?

The Sr Director, Product Management-Planning Experience will be the subject matter expert, driving third party strategy, leading projects internally to bring third parties to life, and relationship management across PX. This individual will be accountable for providing a high-level direction that illustrates the epics and features that will be delivered across a PX and how it integrates with other cross-functional team efforts.

In this role, you will manage a team of hardworking product managers that work on empowering cross-functional teams to solve hard problems for both our customers and the business. They partner with other Directors in engineering, design, marketing, service and sales on everything from strategy and vision through to building, shipping and maintaining our digital products, to allow for the smooth and efficient flow of product activities.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Stay on top of industry planning solutions – where they are currently and market trends

  • Understand capabilities of other financial planning tools available in the marketplace such as NaviPlan, MoneyGuide, eMoney, etc.

  • Build and maintain a holistic financial planning tool strategy.

  • Identify opportunities to accelerate development of PX through partnerships with third parties.

  • Responsible for planning tool evaluation and selection.

  • Manage relationships with vendors of approved third-party planning tools

  • Maintain detailed tool usage analysis by field members.

  • Represent PX on NM's third-party software committees.

  • Champion sunset of PPA and other legacy tools as needed.

  • Ensure the delivery of specialized planning capabilities (in areas such as Social Security optimization, estate planning, tax planning, risk tolerance, and investment analytics) by leveraging third-party partnerships

  • Set the long-term (2-3 year) vision of a product portfolio, including how they will be funded and produce business outcomes. Set the product objectives and key results for the product portfolio. Align our other functions like engineering, design, finance, marketing, service and sales around a common set of measurable goals.

  • Build the future by fostering an engaging environment and encourage accountability and development. Break down barriers so individuals and teams can be accountable and responsible to do their best. Align employee’s passion to business value outcomes, grow talent and proactively solve for talent gaps. Ability to turn challenging teams, interpersonal conflicts, and cross-departmental political initiatives into opportunities. Can pinpoint root causes of disagreement to resolve conflict. Drives highly productive teams and can lead with expertise, energy and empathy.

Bring Your Best! What this role needs:

  • 15+ years of working as a product manager on technology-powered product teams

  • Working knowledge of modern techniques in product discovery and delivery

  • Excellent interpersonal skills; strong written and oral communication skills, including experience in high-level business discussions and deep technical discussions

  • Experience using Business Intelligence dashboards and tools (Tableau, Power BI, Looker etc)

  • Certification or course-completion in agile methods (General Assembly, Pragmatic Marketing, svpg etc)

  • 5+ years of formal people management experience of other product managers

  • Ability to work in a matrix organization

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent technical, business or financial field, and preferably also holds a Masters in Business Administration (MBA)
