Summary

The Senior Content Strategist’s main objective is to develop and oversee the content strategy that drives awareness and understanding of the Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute (NMDSI) to engage key audiences. Additionally, they will facilitate ongoing content planning, manage day-to-day content creation, editing and promotion and report on the results of each initiative.

This is a pivotal role for strengthening the reputation of the NMDSI within the Milwaukee community and beyond through effective writing, accurate tone, targeted communications, and creativity. The manager will oversee content creation, content for blogs, articles, social media, and website among other channels with the expectation you will evaluate analytics to adjust content and make recommendations for improvements. 

Primary  Duties & Responsibilities

  • Understand our focused audiences, their challenges and terminology, as well as their watering holes, and recommend new digital content to address gaps

  • Lead, manage and support content generation process, editorial review and publication of content for digital channels including blog posts and social media to tell powerful stories about our three key areas of focus – research, talent, and community

  • Collaborate with teams across our organization and our partner organizations (university, industry, and community) to brainstorm topics and work with SMEs to author work that align with our messaging and value framework and support increased brand awareness

  • Live and breathe the right analytics beyond keyword research to implement SEO and content management best practices to increase content visibility

  • Choose the best medium for the right content and work closely with our internal and external partners to understand and utilize available channels

  • Collaborate to populate, manage and execute against a roadmap and editorial calendar as well as partnering cross-functionally to drive amplification and engagement

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • B.A. in journalism, Communications, English, Marketing, PR, digital media or related field 

  • Understanding of, or the ability to quickly absorb and understand technical data science and fintech content, as well as the ability to convey such content and material to diverse audiences

  • 5 years experience writing

  • 3 years experience editing and providing writing direction

  • Proven ability to understand, synthesize and articulate complex concepts quickly to a variety of audiences (business and technologists)

  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external teams to collect information and obtain approvals

  • A curious and motivated mind

  • Proven ability to be flexible while maintaining focus to drive desired outcomes, on deadline

  • Ability to manage projects on your own and remain focused amid frequently evolving requirements

  • Interest in/passion for technology and past copywriting experience with complex subjects in a tech-related industry (samples are required)

  • Ability to conduct research, source SMEs internally, fact check and describe technical subject matter in a creative and informative way

  • Ability to gather/use content analytics

  • Current with digital writing methodologies and best practices
