Risk Analytics - Intern

At Northwestern Mutual, we are strong, innovative and growing. We invest in our people. We care and make a positive difference.

Risk Analytics Internship

Businesses exist to take risks. In fact, anytime we choose to come together to try to serve some purpose or achieve a certain goal, we assume risk. If we didn’t, we’d never advance beyond the status quo.

Good businesses take risk confidently. When we manage and govern our organizations, we need to facilitate risk-taking and decision-making in ways that are responsible and smart. This is where our Risk Analytics & Quantification (RAQ) team in Enterprise Information Risk and Cybersecurity comes in.

The team provides accurate and trusted data and analytics products to business partners in Compliance, Privacy, Governance, Technology, and other key functions surrounding risk assessment and management. We quantify a variety of risk scenarios using statistical methods and cloud computing to enable well-informed decisions by senior leadership and our business partners. The team also provides analytical insights and key metrics via automated reporting in dashboards so that security risks can be continuously identified, prioritized, managed, and measured.

What is the role?

The Risk Analytics internship is designed to give students an opportunity to apply concepts, protocols and tools acquired through course work in the real world by working side-by-side with our RAQ professionals. The internship will focus on areas such as metrics reporting, creating statistical or machine learning models to predict behaviors or outcomes, and risk quantification using the Factor Analysis of Information Risk. • Creating scalable and automated solutions for cybersecurity quantification
  • Developing augmented analytics products and machine learning models for preventive detection
