Principal Intern – Private Debt & Equity, Summer 2023

Internship candidates can expect a fulltime onsite internship program, running from June 1, 2023 to August 11, 2023.

Carefully selected from universities across the country, our interns bring distinctive ideas and perspectives to our organization. Our employees are passionate about building our emerging talent and future leaders. After application and initial screening conversation, interns are aligned interview and be hired to a specific team at NM based on their skillsets and interests, providing exposure to real-world business perspectives through hands-on learning and meaningful work. In addition to their day-to-day tasks, interns participate in professional development workshops, senior leadership Q&A's, volunteer initiatives, networking/social events, and more!

Principal Intern – Private Debt & Equity

A Principal Intern is responsible for the analysis, evaluation, and execution of private equity and debt investment opportunities offered to Northwestern Mutual Capital by investment bankers, issuers, and private equity sponsors.  Specific responsibilities include developing investment theses, financial modeling, and valuation, conducting industry and business due diligence, authoring investment memos, assisting in investment committee discussions, and developing relationships with senior level executives, investment bankers, and private equity sponsors.  Principal interns may also be involved with monitoring investments in the Northwestern Mutual Capital portfolio as well as assisting in workouts of underperforming investments.  High performing principal interns can expect to potentially receive a full-time offer, subject to staffing needs. 

 

Requirements include the pursuit of an MBA from a top-tier business school and a minimum of four years of experience in investment banking, private equity, equity research, or other related industries. A broad knowledge of investments, an understanding of economic forces affecting a wide range of industries, proficiency in accounting, strong computer modeling skills, and intellectual curiosity, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with corporate executives, attorneys and senior members of Northwestern Mutual Capital are also required.
