Municipal Credit Research Analyst

This position will be responsible for credit analysis and driving performance within assigned Investment Grade Municipal Bond Sectors.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide timely evaluation of the fundamental credit quality of primary and secondary market offerings informed by fundamental credit and relative value views

  • Provide timely, high quality, independent obligor updates and maintain a current view on focus industries and credits

  • Maintain the internal credit database including a review schedule for all credits

  • Build and Analyze a quantitative risk assessment framework (credit scoring)

  • Demonstrate the ability to formulate, communicate and influence investment recommendations to the Municipal portfolio manager based on forward looking fundamental analysis

  • Prepare and deliver presentations to senior management on key issues, such as topical industry information, credit specific analysis, special project work, etc.

  • Maintain strong, professional relationships with sell-side and buy-side contacts, rating agencies, and issuer management teams

  • Regularly attend industry conferences, investor events and rating agency meetings

  • Use information technology to identify, develop and maintain tools that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the investment decision making process

  • Actively engage in Continuous Learning & Improvement (CL&I) initiatives

  • Exhibit a high level of integrity, trustworthiness, reliability and motivation

  • Promote a culture of mutual respect and courtesy


  • MBA or Master’s degree preferred, an undergraduate degree in finance, economics, mathematics or accounting acceptable

  • CFA designation is preferred, progress toward achieving the designation is also acceptable

  • 5+ years of buy-side asset management industry experience in municipal credit and a demonstrated track record of delivering research and investment ideas contributing to superior, risk adjusted results

  • Current or historical experience (5 years) in Municipal Credit Research

  • Candidates must have a proven track record of deep industry expertise within the investment grade municipal market, including General Obligation and select Revenue sectors

  • Within assigned industries, the candidate must have the ability to provide well-articulated, forward-looking fundamental credit views and an independent internal credit rating

  • Intermediate to advanced skills using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Ability to develop and build relevant models and tools using inputs from Bloomberg and CreditScope

  • Proficiency with CreditScope, Bloomberg, Blackrock Aladdin is highly desirable

  • Knowledge of coding in SAS/R/Python is strongly preferred



This job is not covered by the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement.
