Multi-Asset Class Research Analyst, Full-time January or June 2023

The Public Investments Department within Northwestern Mutual Investment Management Company, LLC (NMIMC) manages the public markets investments of Northwestern Mutual, with more than $120 billion under management in Investment Grade Corporate, Structured Product, High Yield Corporate, Government, Municipal, Emerging Market and related Derivative assets. Northwestern Mutual's (NM) Investment Strategy Department (ISD) focuses on multi-asset class portfolio management for NM’s general account and related portfolios.  ISD is responsible for tactical and strategic asset allocation, public equity portfolio management, external manager oversight, and managed investments technology and data strategy. Job responsibilities may include:

  • Work as a core member of the tactical asset allocation team focusing on multi-asset class research and portfolio management.

  • Support the portfolio management team with research, analysis, and reporting for NM’s General Account and related portfolios.

  • Support ISD’s cross asset research function on various portfolio initiatives and projects spanning public and private asset classes.

  • Assist the portfolio management team in the construction and development of Northwestern Mutual’s absolute return and impact portfolios.

  • Collaborate with Investment Accounting, Treasury, and Investment Operations on projects relating to various portfolios including externally managed accounts. 

  • Collaborate with portfolio management team on presentation and reporting packages to senior management and various internal committees. 

  • Participate in various other investment research projects and assignments.

Bring Your Best! What this role needs. Minimum qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Finance, Investments, or Economics from an accredited college or university.

  • Progress towards the CFA designation preferred.

  • 0-2 years of financial industry experience.

  • Superior oral and written communication skills.

  • Passion to learn and immerse themselves in the capital markets.

  • Desire to be challenged.

Preferred skills and proficiencies

  • Progress toward or intent to pursue CFA designation

  • Previous Asset Management, Public Investments, or Finance internship and/or relevant project experience

  • Proficiency with Bloomberg, Blackrock Aladdin and other Asset Management software/tools is desirable
