What's the Role?

Northwestern Mutual’ s distribution system is organized into 76 Network Offices.  Each office is led by a Managing Partner.  When the Managing Partner is ready to transition from their role, the MP Transition Consultant role steps in to manage this process.

The Managing Partner Transition Consultant partners with field leaders to gather, analyze and detail financial information needed for appointing new Managing Partners as well as Network Office transitions, splits, and mergers. Builds financial modeling analyzing Network Office results and projected future revenue and expenses. Provides consultation to Distribution Performance department Vice Presidents and Principals to provide analysis and recommendation of financial impact of turnovers, splits, and mergers of network offices. During period of Network Office transition, provides financial and retirement consultation to outgoing and incoming Managing Partners. The consultant will be responsible to manage post transition work including memorializing final arrangements, calculating transition and guarantee payments, and presenting at incoming and outgoing transition meetings.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Determine appropriate revenue adjustment for each Managing Partner transition.
  • Consults with field office management, Managing Partners, Managing Directors, CFOs, CDOs, to perform due diligence on existing revenue and expense structure for offices nationwide.
  • Documents and analyze financial information to create financial projection for appointment of new Managing Partner (MP).
  • Provide strategic consultation to key internal partners as to financial impact of multiple transition options.
  • Independently lead projects to define policies associated with the new appointment process to help ensure overall success of the Distribution System.
  • Builds financial models to help field management understand the impact of implementing strategic business ventures in their agencies
  • Evaluate future research and reporting platforms. Research new technologies as needed for future projects.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or other business degree with financial emphasis and significant experience may be considered.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in working with NM's Field Management preferred. Minimum of five years’ experience in financial analysis and projection modeling.
  • Broad knowledge of the company's products, distribution system, field compensation and sales reporting.
  • Experience working with financial data, performing financial analysis and use of spreadsheet tools.
  • Experience and ability in having hard conversations.
  • Proven ability to analyze financial and projection modeling and inform of solutions to complex situations.
  • Proven ability to build rapport and balance opposing stakeholder views throughout the process of building financial transition plans to maximize the future impact in the most cost-efficient manner.
