Job Title: Manager, Data Engineering

Job Description: The Manager, Data Engineering at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Milwaukee, Wisconsin will collaborate with product, engineers, architects, and designers to enhance and modernize top tier data integration flows. Mentor and coach engineers to deliver high-quality data integration solutions. Handle performance management process for employees. Set priorities for scope, risk, and quality of technology solutions to meet business needs. Review solutions and test scenarios/results to provide actionable feedback to engineers. Design, build and maintain various databases and services. Work with relational databases, including DB2 (UDB and zOS), Sybase, SQL Server, and MySQL Cloud databases including Aurora. Analyze requirements for regulatory changes and tech mandates including patching, application upgrades, and other infrastructure upgrades. Utilize database management skills to model and create schema design, identify and propose index improvements, and optimize data query results. Lead and collaborate with teams to deploy data solutions to on prem and cloud using CICD. Perform deployments on a cadence; perform checkout; and verify changes after product deployment. Apply experience with engineering best practices, including analyzing, designing, developing, deploying, and supporting software solutions and infrastructure implementations and upgrades. Monitor live systems, write new features, maintain documentation, participate in planning sessions, and mentor engineers. Monitor applications including Workflows, Replication, CDC, and supporting databases. Develop and lead engineers on code for new features. Utilize Informatica, SQL, Kafka, Ansible, and Unix scripting to fix bugs and implement new features. Improve the resiliency of the systems and create supportable efficient components. Establish, aggregate, and share team standards and best practices across the team including- Development, Unit Testing, Data Usage, and Support. Apply background with Git Source Control and CI/CD practices to create new branches in GitLab and review, provide feedback, approve, and merge branches for engineers. Trigger CI/CD pipeline to deploy code and eliminate any manual deployments.

Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or related field plus 6 years of data engineering experience. 6 years of experience must include 3 years of experience with each of the following: (1) leading data engineers; (2) developing and leading solution delivery using agile methods; (3) batch and near real-time data integration experience; (4) programming for data pipeline services and ETL or ELT; (5) working with relational databases including DB2 LUW, MySQL, Sybase, and DB2 z/OS; (6) SQL including writing and reviewing SQL statements and performance tuning; and (7) Unix and Linux scripting.
