Life Underwriting Quality Assurance Consultant

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead quality assurance reviews of traditional life underwriting with a focus on risk management and mortality quality.​

  • Lead quality assurance reviews of RSS underwriting standards to assess underwriter adherence and determine if there are opportunities to improve the standards themselves or their application by New Business life underwriters. 

  • Lead quality assurance reviews of underwriting rules to verify that the outputs are consistent with the underwriting standards and partner with the underwriting rules and data team on opportunities for improvement.

  • Lead quality assurance reviews of life claim files.

  • Partner with UW Excellence leadership to analyze QA results to include themes and recommendations for optimization and improvement for New Business life underwriting.

  • Form partnerships with RSS standard setters and New Business learning and development/technical leadership teams to inform and assist in creating a plan to lead improvements in the quality of life underwriting risk assessment.

  • Provide support in the completion of contestable case reviews.

  • Provide support to Risk Selection Strategy research and underwriting rules and data teams on studies with potential to be trained to write rules within the UnderwriteMe platform.

  • Assist on ad-hoc project work related to the future of underwriting and other future Risk Selection Strategy initiatives.​

Qualifications

  • A bachelor's degree preferred or demonstrated consistent success in prior underwriting role as evidenced by ability to assess risk.

  • Generally, 5 - 7 years of professional experience in life insurance underwriting.

  • Analytical skills with an established record to make independent decisions on complex cases and apply sound judgement in the application of rules and guidelines.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to handle confidential information and exercise tact, diplomacy, and resourcefulness.

  • Proficient in computer skills and using various software packages.

  • Ability to work accurately while maintaining speed and flexibility in a team and independent production environment while mentoring.

  • A high level of organization and the ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.

  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills and a high degree of self-motivation and initiative to lead projects or committees.

  • Ability to adjust in a continuously changing work environment.
