What’s the role?

Location: Milwaukee, WI (will also consider remote applicants)

Seeking a resource to join a fast-paced, high talent team within Northwestern Mutual. Our team acts as an internal consulting firm within the organization to rapidly solve complex problems across our technology space. 

Speed and simplicity will be top of mind. A spirit of test, learn and iterate will be rooted into the DNA of the team in how it operates and evolves.

  • Implements holistic solutions applying working relationships across the enterprise. 

  • Designs, organizes, and implements high impact solutions across teams, both within and outside their division. 

  • Establishes, aggregates, and shares enterprise standards and best practices. 

  • Mentors and guides junior engineers within respective division. 

  • Ensures production stability, monitoring, and root cause analysis is carried out for their products. 


BRING YOUR BEST! WHAT THIS ROLE NEEDS: 

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

  • 8-10 years of professional experience required 

  • 5-8+ years of experience leading teams using modern or legacy engineering tools, languages, and practices. 

  • 6-10 years working as a backend developer

  • Experienced with React, NodeJS, and DevOps

  • Proficient knowledge of at least one back-end programming language (Python, Java, .NET, JavaScript, etc.)

  • Experience with core AWS web-enabling technologies

  • Familiarity with front-end languages such as HTML, JavaScript and CSS

  • Proven track record of successfully designing and delivering significant and impactful technology solutions. 

  • Experience developing and leading solution delivery using agile methods. 

  • Expert for the organization in one or more technologies across full-stack engineering, data engineering or security engineering

  • Successfully deals with ambiguity. 

  • Recognized as the go-to expert within the division or department. 

  • Ability to effectively communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences in varying forms and levels of detail. 

  • Solid understanding of design patterns and architecture.

  • Growth mindset, challenging status quo to find new solutions and out-of-the-box ideas
