Job Title: Lead Performance Engineer

Job Description: The Lead Performance Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin will lead performance engineering activities on Frameworks team responsible for providing performance data points and allowing financial representatives to track product output. Design, build and maintain performance engineering frameworks and suites. Establish analysis of performance metrics and data from various data sources, build/update Performance monitoring infrastructure, Performance tuning of cloud and on-prem applications and integrate performance engineering suite into our in house framework. Involved in all stages of software development lifecycle within the Northwestern Mutual software applications. Develop and provide performance dashboards with cloud and open source performance monitoring stack. Validate and drive adoption of performance engineering processes and tools frameworks. Utilize performance engineering and leading skills including team management, performance tuning and best practices for performance engineering. Implement modern technologies such as a terraform, k6, cloud performance tuning, Kubernetes, and jvm tuning. Build out AWS infrastructure. Contribute to continuous improvement of enterprise tools, frameworks and testing processes. Design and build new performance tools as needed.  Work with relational databases, such as MySQL databases, and with cloud data architecture. Utilize performance tuning techniques and optimize data query results. Apply experience developing performance engineering dashboards as well as production systems infrastructure health. Manage and lead the performance engineering team which includes performance engineers, senior performance engineers and specialized technical analysts. Telecommuting permitted from anywhere in the United States.

Minimum Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems or related field plus nine years of experience in performance tuning and performance engineering processes. Nine years of experience must include three years of experience with each of the following: (1) cloud performance tuning and Performance frameworks; (2) Devops performance tuning; (3) performance monitoring infrastructure setup; (4) leading multiple performance engineering projects; (5) Identifying technical data and resolving performance bottlenecks; (6) Adapting performance designs to context and communicating to key stakeholders; and (7) Improving enterprise tools, frameworks and performance engineering  processes.
