**This position is a hybrid position. On-site days will be required (M, T, W for Franklin, WI or Milwaukee; Thurs + one other day for NYC)

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Shapes / influences Northwestern Mutual's technology patterns and how workloads are deployed in a hybrid environment.

  • Provides thought leadership on architecture & business matters across NM.

  • Builds, organizes and manages high-performing "Communities of Practice".

  • Ensures Architecture meets financial, compliance, security and risk goals.

  • Provides day-to-day mentoring and coaching to junior architects and technical professionals.

  • Creation of end to end technical architecture solutions including engineering consultation.


Solutions Architect Specific:

  • Ensures key architectural patterns, engineering practices and standards are used and drive them across the organization.

  • Ensures technology products and services are architected according to business needs.

  • Identifies cross departmental synergies and dependencies (including technical) and champion strategies (business and technical).

  • Participates in and guides multiple teams that deliver key architectural patterns, engineering practices and standards and partners with Directors/Engineering Leads to promote adoption across the organization.

  • Defines key architectural patterns, engineering practices and standards and drive them across the organization.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with Cloud platforms (Azure & AWS)

  • Experience working in on-premise datacenters

  • Security training

  • Experience working in security and risk related roles and/or with security and risk related teams 1-2 years.

  • Experience with security and risk frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-53, IS0 27001, CSA CCM, NIST CSF, etc.)

  • Bachelors in Computer Science / Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.

  • 6-8 years of professional experience required

  • 1-5 years of experience in Enterprise Architecture, or 3-5 years of experience in an Architect or Lead Engineering role.

  • Previous participation in and/or leadership of large-scale enterprise technology planning and implementation.

  • Proven experience with design and implementation of large, complex enterprise systems over an extended period of time.

  • Ability to collaborate and/or provide leadership in a larger group of technical/engineering leads and be accountable for driving efforts towards defined outcomes that align to business strategic goals.

  • Breadth and depth of experience in both current and legacy technologies in areas like Application Platforms (e.g. Cloud platform vs. Legacy Platform models), CI/CD tooling and practices, Integration patterns, or Master Data Management.

  • Creating documentation and leading discussions that communicate both strategic intent as well as operational approach to audiences at the Lead and Director level, based on understanding of EA leadership direction.

  • Actively owns and creates strategic technology plans of limited scope.

  • Experience participating in and/or leading orchestrated enterprise planning methodologies (e.g. SAFe.) Understanding of EA methodologies (e.g. TOGAF 9.) Experience with Enterprise Technology planning software (e.g. AgileCraft.)

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$121,030.00

Pay Range - End:

$224,770.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Please note that the salary range listed in the posting is the standard pay structure. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
