Field Benefits Consultant

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partners with department leadership and outside consultants to establish and revise NM’s sales organization’s total rewards strategy, with extra focus on benefits for active and retired  members. This includes working on project teams to design and implement new or different programs.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert to department leadership and senior management on total rewards programs with extra emphasis on benefit plan design. Develop and provide them with the data, analysis, and communications necessary to make informed decisions and explain change to the organization.
  • Research, analyze, design, and develop new programs or processes to existing programs/processes in an effort to improve service, increase productivity, reduce cost, or comply with federal/state laws.
  • Lead the client-side of the sourcing process for third-party vendors. Partner with finance and admin to review service agreements and/or vendor contracts and negotiate changes. Maintain a strong awareness of trends and offerings in the external environment and identify opportunities and best practices for NM.
  • Owns planning, engagement, and presentations to with the Benefits Committee to ensure delivery of appropriate messages and ensure compliance with changes/policies. Develop and execute the benefit plans with the committee and prepare them for voting on their health plan products and services.
  • Participate in interdepartmental projects related to the development of Field compensation, benefits and recognition for products or distribution initiatives.  This also includes working with other field rewards professionals on broader total rewards projects like introducing new programs and maintaining existing programs.
  • Develop communication, educational and promotional materials regarding the financial representative and Field management compensation packages. Provide guidance to company and Field regarding compensation, benefit, and recognition programs through consultations. 
  • Prepare annual benefits budget information for Field Benefits Committee and proactively analyze metrics to recommend changes aimed at controlling cost.
  • Acts as subject matter expert on complex medical plan issues.
  • Interpret and review medical plan documents such as Summary Plan Descriptions, enrollment documents, contracts, and relevant vendor communications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, human resources, or a related field plus 5+ years' experience with the designing, costing, and developing strategy for Employee Benefit plans.
  • Master's degree in business or related field or CEBS, CBP designation desired.
  • In depth understanding of federal and state employee benefit regulations, NM employee benefit plans and processes and Career Distribution strategy and goals.
  • Demonstrated success managing projects to scope, schedule and budget and leading project teams.
  • Ability to influence without direct authority and negotiate compromise.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Proven experience taking a lead role in the third-party sourcing process (RFI, RFP, etc.).
