Facility Planning Specialist

Summary

Responsible for facility related projects in coordination with member of the workplace solutions team and independent work on smaller scale projects. Facility related projects may include occupancy/vacancy updates, space/data/furniture/art inventory data updates, AutoCAD furniture drawings, creation of job packets, field measuring, and budget management. Small scale projects require meeting with the client, analyzing client needs and developing a space plan solution utilizing programming skills, knowledge of Northwestern Mutual culture and space, furniture product, and space planning knowledge.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Creates floor plans and design solutions utilizing basic knowledge of appropriate space for circulation, various codes, ordinances, and statutes relative to building occupancy standards.

  • Performs additional functions which provide support to the team such as monitoring space usage, artwork intake and processing, product naming and data entry for CAFM system inventory, signage, furniture and artwork donations/dispositions and conducts yearly audit functions to maintain the accuracy of system data.

  • Assists team members with the research, specification and coordination of the selection process with manufacturers, and vendors.

  • Applies judgment relative to the function and aesthetic characteristics of all standards selected.

  • Maintains a high degree of discretion relative to confidentiality of information.

  • Exercises judgment in the disposition of information regarding pending reorganizations, long-range planning, promotions and transfers.


Qualifications

  • BS degree Interior Design with a preferred minimum of 5 years relevant work experience.

  • Proficient use of software systems such as AutoCAD, Archibus and Microsoft.

  • Basic knowledge of corporate space planning, systems furniture applications required.

  • Must be a self-starter and possess the ability to take work from start to finish including customer follow-up.

  • Basic understanding of municipal codes, ADA requirements and other aspects of design affecting health and safety required.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals throughout the organization

  • Work experience must include demonstration of time management, analytical ability, superior verbal and written skills as well as sound decision making abilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and exercise tact, diplomacy, resourcefulness and understanding to provide service to customers at all levels.

  • Requires the ability to problem solve, prioritize requests, exercise judgment and execute to job completion.
