Enterprise Corporate Security Manager

What’s the role? 

As a best-in-class enterprise Corporate Security Manager for Northwestern Mutual, you will lead a team of Security Control Center Operators for the 24/7/365 Northwestern Mutual SCC, which is responsible for creating an environment that inspires others to achieve theirs by blending a thorough knowledge of security processes and technology with company values. SCC Operators take appropriate actions that promote and maintain safety and security for people and facilities.

The Corporate Security Manager is responsible for safety and security issues which affect the corporate campuses (Milwaukee, Franklin, New York and the Northwestern Mutual buildings and grounds).  These issues may involve building emergencies, crisis resolution and threats made against the company. Partners effectively with peer managers to foster a collaborative environment.  

Security experience in a corporate security environment, strong customer service skills, technical proficiency, and coaching and mentoring others through direct and indirect leadership are critical to the success of the Corporate Security Manager. Specific platforms within NM’s Enterprise Security environment can be taught. 

SCC Team Impact : SCC operators proactively monitor and analyze data from intelligence platforms on emerging incidents, as well as other adverse situations that could negatively impact business operations and/or the safety and security of Northwestern Mutual workforce, facilities, guests, or assets. The SCC Operator also monitors the department’s enterprise access control/video surveillance system for irregularities and assigns resources, as appropriate. They rotate through posts in our enterprise security control centers, patrol our campuses in Milwaukee, Franklin and New York, assist at the main lobbies and provide security at Company special events. 

Technical Environment : Milestone XProtect Video Management Software, CloudGate Enterprise Visitor Management System, Metasys Building Automation System, JCI Fire Panels, Microsoft Office Suite, Zoom 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Accountable for people leader responsibilities including staff development, performance management, coaching and mentoring.  Demonstrate strong leadership capabilities by setting appropriate goals based on strategies, operating plans and operational requirements.  Create an environment that motivates individuals and encourages team collaboration while driving for outcomes and results.    

  • Manage the SCC (Security Control Center) and technical projects and processes for the company in order to ensure safety and security of all employees, visitors and assets.    

  • Responsible for cultivating relationships with internal stakeholders to ensure departmental and enterprise business outcomes.  External stakeholders include local law enforcement, fire departments and government agencies.  Responsible for staying current with industry trends and enterprise business objectives.  

  • Lead and assist in investigations and crisis management using technology and working with clients (leadership, Employee Relations and Legal Dept).  Provide documentation and consultation in response to legal action. 

  • Perform other project work and responsibilities as assigned such as parking management or special campus events. 

  • Function as budget manager for respective team.  

  • Manage 24-hour, 365-day per year operations and ensures cross-campus synergy.

  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. 

  • Minimum of five (5) years of security experience with a strong emphasis on security technology and/or facility command center (SCC – Security Control Center) experience. 

  • Command center (SCC) experience includes HVAC, fire and electrical systems. 

  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience managing people required. 

  • Strong customer service skills, ability to influence others and make sound business decisions. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 

  • Expectation of availability to manage a 24-hour, 7 day/week operation at either campus location. 

  • Some travel may be required (less than 10%).

Pay Range - Start:

$59,150.00

Pay Range - End:

$109,850.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
