Director, Software Engineering - Martech

We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic software engineering leader interested in executing Northwestern Mutual's Marketing technology strategy and delivery. As an Assistant to the Senior Director of Engineering, you will be the leader of a group of talented software engineers who are evolving the company’s public facing systems and martech systems – including the corporate website northwesternmutual.com, thousands of financial advisors’ websites, and the critical data needed to power our marketing systems. This team directly supports millions of annual visitors while providing a world class experience through engineering best practices, component libraries, scalable micro services, design systems, content management systems and various other engineering and marketing technologies. Working with the Senior Director, you will investigate, propose, and drive the next generation technology strategy and roadmap for the marketing team at NM. Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides technical leadership to team

  • Areas of focus includes Content Delivery and Marketing Technologies

  • Establishes, aggregates, and shares team standards and best practices across department

  • Mentors, guides and coaches engineers within their division for job performance as well as technical and leadership growth

  • Recruits, hires and onboards talent, ensuring the right mix of talent within team

  • Manages team size / design and budget

  • Ensures production stability, monitoring, and root cause analysis for their products

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience

  • 6-8 years of professional experience required

  • 3-5+ years of experience working with modern engineering tools, languages and practices

  • 2-5+ years of experience leading engineering teams to include growing engineering skill sets in others and developing future engineering leaders

  • Working knowledge of enterprise marketing data systems

  • Good understanding in Marketing Technologies

  • Providing direct feedback and performance reviews

  • Proven track record of successfully designing and delivering significant and impactful technology solutions

  • Experience developing and leading solution delivery using agile methods

  • Solid understanding of the organization's primary domains and business functions.

  • Capable of communicating between product, engineering, and the business

  • Ability to successfully communicate to both technical and non-technical audiences in varying forms and levels of detail
