We are looking for a driven and enthusiastic software engineering interested in
executing Northwestern Mutual’s Digital Experience Platform strategy. As a
software engineer for the Digital Experience Platform, you will work on a team that is evolving the digital platform that accelerates digital product teams across the enterprise through a common design system, catalog of experience APIs, and shared experiences. This role will focus on building a developer experience that enables the digital product teams to easily integrate with the platform. On this team, you can expect to work on high-value, high-visibility projects that empower the rest of our engineering teams to ship more efficiently, with more consistent, accessible, and responsive products. The role requires an agile engineering attitude, patience, and persistence to solve complex problems, ability to get things done quickly but thoughtfully, and strong engineering skills. They are driven to constantly improve and refine not only their own abilities, but their organization as well. The ideal candidate loves to write lots of code including unit and automation tests that ensures their code is continuously working. They are excited by the ideas of continuous integration and continuous delivery as well as the inspection of code quality to detect bugs, code smells and security vulnerabilities from which we continuously learn from and improve our craft.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Creating well designed, efficient, quality code

  • Contribute to the constellation of libraries, tools, and artifacts that comprise the platform

  • Maintain and create CI/CD pipelines and build scripting we use to publish and deploy our tooling

  • Work collaboratively with other developers to review, test, debug code

  • Looking at old things in new ways

  • Learning and developing skills

  • Increasing technical proficiency

  • Learning and promoting developer efficiency

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • 3+ years of professional experience with JavaScript Experience building full stack web applications.

  • Experience using modern front-end frameworks (React, Vue)

  • Knowledgeable of current software engineering trends, best practices and standards

  • Experience with Git or other source control management

  • Experience developing and maintaining automated tests

  • Enjoy fast paced environments and working in teams

  • Analytical, problem solving skills, and detail oriented

  • A systematic approach to problem-solving 

  • Creative and motivated

Ideal Skills to Succeed:

  • NodeJS, React, Redux, ExpressJS

  • DevOps

  • Source control (preferably: git)

  • Containerization (preferably: Docker)

  • Container orchestration (preferably: Kubernetes)

  • Infrastructure scripting (preferably: Terraform)

  • Public cloud (preferably: AWS)
