Corporate Security Internship, Summer 2023

Internship Program Overview:

Internship candidates can expect a fulltime onsite internship program, running from June 1, 2023 to August 11, 2023.  This internship opportunity is offered in Milwaukee, WI and Franklin, WI. Internship candidates who are relocating for the summer internship opportunity are eligible for round-trip airline/train travel and mileage reimbursement to and from your internship location and company-provided housing for the duration of the summer internship program in accordance with the company’s relocation policy. 

Carefully selected from universities across the country, our interns bring distinctive ideas and perspectives to our organization. Our employees are passionate about building our emerging talent and future leaders. After application and initial screening conversation, interns are aligned interview and be hired to a specific team at NM based on their skillsets and interests, providing exposure to real-world business perspectives through hands-on learning and meaningful work. In addition to their day-to-day tasks, interns participate in professional development workshops, senior leadership Q&A's, volunteer initiatives, networking/social events, and more!  

Students participate in the intern program at Northwestern Mutual. Program objectives provide the student with hands-on experience through teamwork and collaboration, as well as individual work assignments. Interns participate in a wide range of learning and development activities including job shadows, attending various speaking engagements and events designed to expose interns to multiple areas of the firm. Interns also have an opportunity to network with senior leaders across the firm, attend various social and work-sponsored events and are also encouraged to engage in team volunteer opportunities within the community.   

  Who We Are:

The Corporate Security organization is responsible for Northwestern Mutual’s enterprise physical security. We help to ensure a safe and secure environment and that we are prepared to respond to an incident and minimize its impact.  We are advise the enterprise in making risk-aware business decisions to mitigate threats to Northwestern Mutual’s people, property, information, brand and reputation.

Role and Responsibilities

The Corporate Security intern would assist in the execution of day-to-day operational activities as well as planned projects to forward our physical security program.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to :

  • Assist in day to day operations of physical security using pertinent tools and technology
  • Assist in the capturing and reporting of risk intelligence data
  • Assist in the development and implementation of business process-improvement initiatives
  • Contribute to security technology projects

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Safety, Criminal Justice, Building/Facility Management, Risk Management, or related field

Required Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organization and time management skills, able to prioritize multiple responsibilities  
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Intermediate level proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite

Desired Skills

  • Knowledge of physical security and risk management functions
