Northwestern Mutual is looking for a Content Marketing Manager to join our Content Team. In this position, you’ll be supporting a team that produces content for our website’s Life & Money content hub as well as other areas where consumer-facing content is needed (email campaigns, newsletters, client content, long-form information guides, etc.). We’re looking for someone with strong project management skills who is familiar with how content can be used throughout the marketing funnel.


  • Independently lead content projects/support assignments and/or participates in cross-departmental projects with responsibility for handling scope, risk, business value, schedule and budget, if needed.

  • Acts as a liaison to facilitate understanding and partnership between internal business partners.

  • With department management, defines the objectives to be accomplished by various content projects. With the team, develops the project plan. Helps lead team members to define the best methods to achieve objectives.

  • Track status, timelines and achievements for various projects.

  • Build and maintain editorial calendars.

  • Gather and report on relevant content metrics by project, across multiple distribution channels. Work cross-team with other marketing partners on testing plans to find opportunities for content optimization.

  • Conduct content audits as needed and develop content recommendations for specific channels.

  • At the direction of management, develops presentations and communications as needed.

  • Manage assets and run the execution of multiple newsletter programs. Work with email marketing team to test newsletters as needed to find areas of opportunity.

  • Lead general maintenance of our content site, including fixing broken links, updating expiring articles, curating article collections, and general QA

  • Write copy for social posts, newsletter display copy (subject lines, blurbs, etc.), emails as needed.

  • Routing content through compliance, subject matter experts and other business partners as needed.

  • Track budget costs and invoices, help onboard new freelancers as needed.


  • A Bachelor's degree in journalism, marketing or communications-related field preferred, or relevant experience.

  • Outstanding project management and communications skills. We produce content daily and for multiple internal partners, so we need someone who can help us keep it all organized.

  • Ability to balance multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.

  • Ability to work independently with general direction to scope, plan and run cross-department or multi-department projects.

  • High degree of personal initiative and motivation. Great teammate.

  • Familiar with analytics reporting. Experience with Adobe Analytics a plus.

  • Basic knowledge of SEO practices

  • Comfortable writing display copy, subject lines or email copy as needed.

  • Good copy editing/proofing skills.

  • Comfortable working in a CMS; Drupal or similar

  • Ability to spot trends in content analytics and do gap analyses to identify where we have content holes

  • Previous experience in financial services a plus.
