Summary

The Communications Strategist works with the Field Communications team to help develop, implement, and manage communications that support and advance the company’s priorities for our Field (20,000+ members of our exclusive distribution system). You’ll work with a variety of business partners to understand business objectives, and then build and deliver communication plans that inform, educate and influence field leaders, advisors and teams, as well as other stakeholders.

You’ll help define communication objectives, determine delivery strategies, and create assets (communication plans, talking points, articles, videos, and presentations) that build awareness and understanding of Field priorities. Through close collaboration with colleagues and target audiences, you’ll brainstorm innovative communication ideas and approaches, and demonstrate effectiveness through measurement and program assessment.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and implement integrated communication programs that inform and align target audiences with strategic priorities.

  • Synthesize and distill complex information to tell clear, comprehensive and engaging stories for a variety of audiences.

  • Identify and connect collaborations across multiple teams as part of an integrated, cross-functional team.

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of communications and assess the return on the communications investment.

  • Act as a trusted partner to assistant director and mentor communication specialist.

  • Guide the work of internal partners, outside vendors and contractors, as appropriate, to ensure that execution supports the communication strategies and achieves business partner objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree

  • 6 or more years of experience in professional communications, public relations, organizational communication, marketing or related communication field.

  • Demonstrated experience with communications planning, objective setting and key message development based on analysis of the business problem and/or opportunity.

  • Ability to listen to, engage and influence business partners, synthesize and relate complex information, analyze communication problems and opportunities, and develop and implement integrated communication strategies.

  • Knowledge of how to effectively communicate across a range of mediums, including articles, presentations, events and video.

  • Demonstrated skill in project management with ability to manage multiple projects/deadlines.

  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.

  • Willingness to adapt style and build consensus among working teams.

  • Willingness to question the status quo and develop innovative ways to advance business objectives through communications.

$63,560.00

Pay Range - End:

$118,040.00

Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case.
