What's the role?

We seek talented JavaScript engineers with a desire to build Northwestern Mutual’s future through modern software applications.

This Role

This position will be critical in helping us expand the functionality in our existing modern JavaScript application.  This is a React/Redux web app using Node.js RESTful APIs, hosted on AWS.

This role can extend over the following components or, go deep into one:

Help us enhance and grow our existing React components

Help us grow and build Node.js REST APIs

Help us support, troubleshoot, and manage our application frontend design and integrations

Technologies We Use:







Be a team player: contribute to our culture, invent new ways to address industry needs, criticize constructively, and help create a world-changing company

Provide solutions for UX and UI problems during planning and development

Write automated tests via TDD to foster effective, reusable, and flexible code

Build logic in isolated, independent, reusable components

Ability to tackle user interface problems, independently and as part of a team

Debug and troubleshoot integration with new API’s

You know and care about CSS and modern frontend development and design tools and techniques

Skills & Requirements


Passionate about learning and creating high-quality, flexible code

Strong JavaScript skills (ES6)

Strong understanding of REST API principles and best practices

Strong knowledge in Node.js

Proficient with Git

Proficiency with CSS preprocessors

Strong understanding of asynchrony and using Promises

Familiarity with data structures and the ability to pick and use the right one for the task.

Experience with using APIs including data CRUD operations, JSON data structures, authentication, and documentation

Ability to meet deadlines and hard working.

Ability to work independently and within a team of diverse skills. Ability to receive and provide constructive feedback.

This job is not covered by the existing Collective Bargaining Agreement.
