At Northwestern Mutual, we are strong, innovative and growing. We invest in our people. We care and make a positive difference.
At Northwestern Mutual, we believe relationships are built on trust. That our lives and our work matter. These beliefs launched our company over 160 years ago. Today, they're just a few of the reasons why people choose to build careers at Northwestern Mutual.
We're strong and growing. In a company with such a long and storied history, this may be the most exciting and important time to be a part of Northwestern Mutual. We're strong, innovative and growing.
We invest in our people. We provide opportunities for employees to grow themselves, their career and in turn, our business.
We care. We make a positive difference in our communities. Nationally, thousands have benefitted from our support of research and programs to fight childhood cancer. Each year, our Foundation, employees and financial representatives donate time, talent and financial support to causes they're passionate about.
2021 was a record-setting year here at Northwestern Mutual – one that saw our company achieve new levels of financial strength, client trust, employee engagement and media attention. For instance:
Company revenue grew to $34 billion, an all-time high.
More clients than ever before – over 97% – kept their life insurance with us.
We were one of only four U.S. companies to earn the highest levels of financial soundness from every major rating agency – a class that includes Apple and Microsoft.
Our combined $570 billion in company and client assets was the highest in our history.
We have consistently maintained best-in-class employee engagement levels.
The future has never looked brighter at Northwestern Mutual, and to help accelerate our historic momentum we are making exciting investments in key areas of the enterprise – including external communications.
A core piece of that investment will be our newly created Assistant Director of Thought Leadership and Executive Visibility – a member of the Communications leadership team responsible for developing high-profile, high-impact external content on behalf of our top executives, along with the strategies and structures to keep that content fresh, timely, organized and in alignment with key business objectives.
Reporting to – and working in partnership with – the Senior Director of Media & Public Relations, the assistant director will, first and foremost, be an exquisite writer who will help give ‘voice’ to senior company leaders through compelling bylined articles, long- and short-form LinkedIn pieces, speeches and talking points, and a variety of other forms of written content for external audiences. To develop those materials and advance the company’s thought leadership profile, the assistant director should also be capable of quickly gaining a deep understanding of Northwestern Mutual, our unique value proposition, company products, technology solutions, exclusive distribution system, and other key aspects of our business. Moreover, they should possess a keen sense of the current news cycle, macro trends, and timely third-party research to help drive relevance and nimble storytelling.
Along with being a truly top-notch and versatile writer, this role will also be responsible for creating a comprehensive editorial plan and schedule – one that will guide the development and rollout of all content to support our senior executives’ external thought leadership programs. To do so, the assistant director must cultivate relationships with senior leaders, key business partners, and other communicators to mine content ideas; capitalize on company achievements, events and announcements; and ensure messages are both consistent and complementary across channels and leaders.
