Assistant Director - Risk Selection Program Lead

Northwestern Mutual is seeking an experienced and agile Assistant Director - Risk Selection Program Lead interested in joining a diverse, challenging, and fast-paced practice advising the Company on a wide range of issues as the Company works to transform how clients experience financial security.

What's the role?

The Assistant Director - Risk Selection Program Lead will own program management efforts for initiatives related to defining underwriting and risk assessment capabilities including automated risk assessment, new digital sources of underwriting information, and reflexive/interactive application experiences.

This is a great opportunity to provide leadership across the enterprise partners involved, and as part of a matrixed program management structure to reach goals associated with large, highly complex efforts.

Day to day...

  • Plans, monitors and leads internal projects/programs from initiation through completion.

  • Runs projects/programs to ensure outcomes are achieved timely according to specifications and within budgeted costs.

  • Maintains alignment with other project/program efforts supporting the transformation agenda.

  • Independently leads cross-departmental projects/programs with responsibility for handling scope, risk, business value, resources, schedule, and budget.

  • Allocates staff and budget resources required to achieve project/program objectives.

  • Builds, motivates, and influences team members for them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.

  • Persuades others and effectively interacts, negotiates and influences project teams and business partners to provide acceptable solutions and results.

  • Identifies, tracks, and resolves issues/risks.

  • Identifies interdependencies with other portfolio and enterprise efforts and creating options to align resources, designs, processes, and impacts.

  • Acts as a liaison to facilitate an understanding and partnership between business clients while handling the resources and vendors, verifying progress and removing obstacles.

  • Conducts analysis to identify the nature of a business and/or system problem.

  • Identifies alternative options in the development of and improvements for new policies, systems, and processes.

  • Gathers and delivers key success metrics while providing progress reports.

  • Develops presentations and communications demonstrating the clear connection between the reason(s) for action, solution options and end-goals.

Bring your best! What this role needs:

  • Bachelor's Degree with an emphasis in Business, Project Management or related field OR a significant amount of directly-related work experience beyond the minimum required for the position.

  • 6+ years of experience in processes and project management to include analysis and documentation.

  • Experience leading large assignments including those with enterprise-wide impact.

  • Ability to prioritize work and handle several tasks simultaneously while meeting goals.

  • High degree of personal initiative and motivation.

  • Experience with project methodology phases.

Desired personal attributes:

  • Degree with a project management emphasis or PMI certification.

  • Knowledge of insurance products and operational processes.
