Assistant Director - Executive Compensation

What's the Role?

Responsible for the development, implementation, and administration of executive compensation programs. Supports, initiates, as well as leads design and analytical efforts in broad incentive design. Play a large role in supporting compensation strategy by providing ongoing consultation to company leaders and Human Resources partners to help attract and retain top talent. Conducts benchmarking of executive rewards to ensure competitiveness and compliance.

  • In coordination with Total Rewards leadership, responsible for establishing and maintaining a defined executive compensation philosophy and framework/structure that is consistent with the broader compensation philosophy and people strategy.
  • Participates in the design, analysis, and consultative guidance of the annual short-term and longer-term incentive plans including the directing of administration and governance processes, associated communications, and support of related processes in payroll, finance and legal
  • Lead the planning and preparation of materials for the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors (6+ Annually). Directly support the Total Rewards VP and CHRO in preparing for these meetings.
  • Participate in the planning, design, and implementation of executive base pay, short-term incentive programs, and long-term incentive programs
  • Leads annual compensation review for executive population including market pricing all roles, discussion of performance and pay recommendations with leaders and presentation of recommendations
  • Maintains awareness of the latest trends and regulations regarding executive compensation.
  • Partner with and guide Talent Acquisition & HR Embedded on executive offers and prepare recommendations for external offers.
  • Improves executive’s and director’s understanding of incentive compensation programs by developing and creating educational materials while providing consultative support.
  • Review of compensation-related regulatory requirements, mentorship and ongoing compliance, response to regulator requests related to Executive Compensation
  • Works with the finance team on forecasting of executive compensation and delivering a market competitive program, understanding, and communicating the cost implications of any proposed program changes.


  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, statistics, mathematics, human resources, or related area.
  • Knowledge of executive compensation principles and practices, core areas of compensation administration, and laws and regulations.
  • Minimum of 8 years compensation experience to include demonstrated success designing, modifying, and consulting on compensation programs, experience with multiple job evaluation methodologies, and knowledge of regulations and laws impacting compensation practices.
  • Minimum of 3 years in a role with a primary focus on Executive Compensation, including experience working with a Board of Directors in meeting preparation and material development
  • Ability to influence and develop strong and collaborative cross-functional working relationships
  • Exceptional business management skills including planning, project management, financial management, translating business requirements into compensation strategies and plans.
  • Intellectual curiosity, manage ambiguity and motivate change, fabulous attention to detail and accuracy, a track record of successfully balancing strategy development with operational efficiency
  • Client-facing experience in compensation programs (some or all of: job evaluation and benchmarking; grading / career level structures; base salary architecture design; short- and long-term incentives; equity programs; annual salary increase / bonus payment cycle).
  • Data literacy and critical thinking skills with the ability to review, analyze, and interpret data drawn from multiple sources to make effective recommendations and influence/drive decision making.
  • CCP designation and/or M&A experience is preferred
