What you will do:

Coordinate Company efforts to collect, analyze, and report competitive intelligence related to financial analysis, key competitors, benchmarks, industry trends and risks for life, disability and long term care insurance and annuities. Provide actionable insight and recommendations related to the competitive and industry environment that result in strategic, sound and informed choices for the Company. Drive cross-departmental integration of all Company, industry, product and marketing related competitive intelligence.

How you will do it:

  • Initiate and/or responsively produce deep analytical work on competitive and industry topics. Contribute to and convenes meetings to debate ongoing and emerging topics with senior management.
  • Coordinate and produces regular competitive reporting including quarterly market share reports, quarterly competitor profiles and annual competitive reviews.
  • Take a leading role in cross-departmental competitive coordination.
  • Establish and maintain relationships/dialogue with colleagues, senior management and industry contacts.
  • Monitor the competitive environment to anticipate competitive issues that impact company strategic, planning and product development efforts. Support the planning, initiative and execution of business development activities.
  • Provide competitive context to corporate initiatives across the Company, which may include Corporate Strategy projects, marketing pieces and NM's response to regulatory change.
  • Maintain a competitive intelligence repository/knowledge base.
  • Work with other members of corporate strategy and senior management to identify key issues that will shape the success of Northwestern Mutual over the near term.

Bring Your Best! What this role needs:

  • A minimum of 8-10 years experience with research or financial analysis background.
  • Strongly prefer MBA with a minimum of bachelor's degree in a relevant area.
  • Actuarial experience is also desirable.
  • Understanding of the financial services industry and insurance and other financial products.
  • Creative and intuitive skills to tie together seemingly disparate trends.
  • Demonstrated superior written and verbal communication skills with ability to build rapport and gain acceptance at all levels in the Home Office.
  • Ability to manage multiple, diverse assignments in a timely and quality manner.
